University interview tips So you have decided that you want to further your education to get a better job upon graduating. You have chosen your preferred degree program and University. You have an interview planned and now it’s time to get ready.

- Start preparing by simply going online and finding the campus map if there is one available. Locate where on the campus the interview will be taking place. It would be a good idea to drive there and physically locate the place where your interview is going to be, this will keep you from getting lost on the day of your interview.
- Put everything together in a portfolio such as your exams certificates, achievements and any other items that will pertain to the interview.
- On the day of the interview, make sure that you dress smartly and that you are well groomed. Dress as you would if you were going for a job interview.
You will want to be prepared for the questions that you might be asked. Some questions may seem easier than they actually are; however they need a little more thought before you answer. Here are some questions that you might be asked during your interview.
Tell me about yourself.
When answering this, be honest and open. Talk about your goals, where you are from and the things that matter to you. Don’t mention that you are a good student, this can be demonstrated by your actions and answers during the interview; also the exam scores.
Why are you interested in our university?
Hopefully you would have given this much thought before you decided to apply. Tie in your goals to the schools objectives and mission statement.
Who in your life has influenced you the most?
Really think about this when you answer and give the reasons why that may be the case. This will demonstrate those traits that you find important.
Why do you want to major in this program?
Again this is another question that you will need to think about and then you can answer. Is it your dream job? Does it have to do with a passion? Do you have a hobby you want to turn into a career? Be open and honest about the answer. What do you do for fun? Try to avoid telling the interviewer you like to party. Mention your hobbies, interests.
When the interview is over, be sure to thank the interviewer for their time. It is exciting when you decide to make a life changing decision such as going to University. Try not to be nervous and just keep your eye on the goal at hand. Students may not have experience with an expert interview, if the job or the university really matters it is best to really be prepared and that is what we are here for.
